Letter to my MP

I know it’s an odd thing to pick on what with all the other issues I have with the government’s draconian plans for us, but the selling off of the woodlands has really narked me. The current economic problems are being used to sell us dogma led changes so we just accept them because they “have to happen” irrespective of any actual effect that they may have on the economy.

So, the selling off of the woodland seems to be sneaking in “under the radar” without any of the (admittedly wonderful) attention of UKunCut or the unions are bringing to the more important issues of cuts to the NHS, or the refusal to sort out tax dodging.

How do I substantiate my claim this is dogma led rather than a genuine attempt to sort things out? Well, take my local MP (please). She has just voted for the government’s plans, while simultaneously calling for the nice bit of forest, that just so happens to be in her area, be protected from this process. I’m sorry, either turning the forests over to private hands is a good thing or it is not. This should not depend on its proximity to your constituents.

So, with little expectation of it making a change, I have sent a letter:

** Extremely disappointed**

Dear Ms Truss

I was extremely disappointed to see that despite your call to recognise Thetford Forest as a Heritage Forest you still saw fit to vote support the selling off our woodlands. I agree strongly with your stance on Thetford but surely all the arguments you list for the preservation of that apply to all other areas of forestation in the UK.

Could you explain to me why you believe that (other than it is “on your patch”) Thetford warrants exemption from the government’s increasingly unpopular wishes.

I would be grateful if, as my representative in Parliament, you will reconsider your position.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Al Napp
